Knights kick off season with skills day

More than 90 children attended the Kiama Junior Knights Skills Day at Gainsborough Chase Reserve on Tuesday.

According to Carl Middleton, President of the Junior Knights, it was the perfect way to start the 2018 season.

“We were delighted to see so many children at our skills day. While there were lots of familiar faces, it was great to see so many new boys and girls there to try rugby league or league tag for the first time,” Carl said.

“Our local NRL development officers ran a number of skills clinics for the kids, teaching them the basic skills of the game. Special thanks to Matt O’Brien and his team for their help.”

Carl said the event saw a number of new children sign up.

“Registrations are looking strong across the club this season. The committee has been working hard to not only increase registrations in the mini and mod age groups which are the long-term future of the club, but also to re-establish teams in the international competition,” he said.

“There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes, with a particular focus on our under 14 and 15 boys.”

Training for most teams will commence shortly, but there is still time to register.

“Thanks to the Active Kids rebate, all school-aged children can register with the Kiama Junior Knights and play the 2018 season for free – saving $100 in registration fees,” Carl said.

Simply go to www.playnrl.com/register, then select the ‘Players’ tab, search for ‘Kiama’ in the suburb or postcode field and select ‘Kiama Junior Rugby League Inc’. Once selected, hit ‘Register now’ and follow the prompts.
