Big weekend of footy

The South Coast Group 7 Rugby League competition continued on the weekend, with six games taking place at Chittick Oval.

In the first game of the day, two of the Knights Under 6s teams play each other in a close encounter, before the Club hosted games against Stingrays and Albion Park/Oak Flats.

Despite being beaten, the Junior Knights Under 12-1s team showed that they are a side on the improve.

The Knights started off strong and were very competitive against the first-placed Albion Park/Oak Flats side.

The Knights' resilience and defence on their own line was strong. Byron Weston led the way in defence and was supported by Liam Wonson, Taj Roberts and the rest of the forwards.

Callum Hodgson and Jackson Stewart, who played in the halves, provided good service to their outside men with the limited opportunities that they had.

Jake Burgess was again strong and Luke Cockcroft started the game off well, impressing the coaches with his skills, only to come off injured.

Meanwhile, the Under 14s Black League Tag team came away with an impressive 50-nil win against Bomaderry. The girls continue to play for each other, and grow in confidence and skills each week.

On Saturday afternoon, the Under 7s then represented the Club as the ‘Team of the Week’ at the Kiama Senior Knights. The boys presented the jerseys to the First Grade team in the dressing sheds and then walked the players onto the field before their game against Jamberoo Superoos.

The Knights also took part in a relay race against other 17 other South Coast Group 7 teams on Saturday night at WIN Stadium during the St George Dragons versus Manly Sea Eagles match. Amid tough competition, the Knights came an impressive fourth place!

On Sunday, the Under 9s braved the cold and windy conditions to take part in the Tommy Martin Knockout in Corrimal. After winning their first match against the Dapto Canaries, the Knights went down in the dying minutes of their second match to Berry. ‘Wildman’ Will Evans was a standout, scoring a number of tries and making some big hits in defence! Well done Knights!
