Knights brave bleak weather

The Kiama Junior Knights braved the bleak weather on Saturday for round nine of the South Coast Group 7 Rugby League competition. Eight games were played at Chittick Oval, with the Junior Knights taking on teams from Albion Park, Gerringong, Warilla, Stingrays and Berry. One of the highlights was the game between the Knights and Berry Magpies in the Under 10-1s, with the Knights returning to the winner’s circle after a hard fought 34 -18 win. With scores level at 12-all at half time, the Knights got on a roll in the second half through some strong running from forwards Tewiremu Harris and the ‘human steam-roller’, Sam Guevara. Solid defence from the Knights in the second half kept Berry camped in their own territory with some copy-book tackling from both Levii and Lacom Poching. Man of the Match, Tama Nahona Ponga had a busy game in both attack and defence, but it was his all-round effort that stood out in very good and much improved team performance. Well done Knights! Next Saturday, the Under 7s will represent the Club as the ‘Team of the Week’ at the Kiama Senior Knights. The boys will have the opportunity to present the jerseys to the First Grade team in the dressing sheds at 2pm and then walk the players onto the field at 2:45pm for their game against Jamberoo Superoos. The Knights will also have a relay team race against other South Coast Group 7 teams on Saturday night at WIN Stadium during the St George Dragons versus Manly Sea Eagles match. Good luck Knights!
