Season kicks off for 2019

The Kiama Junior Knights officially kicked off their 2019 season on the weekend, with the first round of the South Coast Group 7 Junior Rugby League competition.

Six games were held at Chittick Oval on Saturday, with the Junior Knights playing host to Stingrays, Milton-Ulladulla, Bomaderry, and Albion Park Oak Flats.

One of the newest teams in the Club, the Under 10s Girls League Tag team, took on last year’s grand finalists Milton-Ulladulla.

According to Coach, Lachlan Payne, the girls started in spectacular fashion with a try from the kick off and it didn’t stop there running away winners 56-12.

“For their first game the girls showed such great skills all over the field. They defended well, making some great tags, halting the Bulldogs before they could attack our line,” said Lachlan.

“Eadie Payne, Payton Garvey and Molly Peseta stood out in defence and this paid dividends for the team.

“In attack, Claire Vogelaar played an exception game, passing, dummying and darting through holes. Katelyn Hoare showed some great foot work but the balance, speed and agility of Ginger Siasat was second to none.

“All the girls worked hard and played as a team, and most importantly came off the field with huge smiles!

“This week we will continue to work on the skills of the game, and will hopefully get a few more wins on the board so they can continue to practice the Club victory song!”

Congratulations girls on a tremendous start to the season!

The Kiama Junior Knights mini teams (Under 6s to Under 9s) started their season on Sunday with gala days in perfect autumn conditions.

The Under 7s played at Chittick Oval against teams from Berry, Bomaderry, Stringrays, Nowra, Warilla, Milton, Gerringong and St Georges Basin.

Next Saturday all teams will take to the field, with the Under 13s playing their first game of the season.
