Round #2 wrap-up
The Kiama Junior Knights hosted 13 games at Chittick Oval on Saturday 6 April in hot autumn conditions.
In the first game of the day, the Under 14s Girls League Tag Team defeated Berry 38-4, before the under 16s Girls League Tag team drew 10-all with Bomaderry in the dying minutes of the game.
Later that afternoon, the Under 12'2s team came up against the Sussex Inlet Panthers, with the hot conditions proving challenging for both teams.
The Knights got away to a 22 point lead at half time, with tries to Jack Freaney, Taj Herbert and Lachlan Young who scored a double. Goals were kicked by Kynan Goode, Jed O’Connor and Jack Freaney who converted his own try.
According to co-Coach Nic Wingrove, the attack Sussex came out firing in the second half and scored two quick tries in just 10 minutes.
"The Knights then decided to muscle up and combine their efforts, lifting their heads and responding with some tough defence. This prevented the Panthers from scoring any more points," said Nic.
"Macauley Peterson scored the final try of the match with a great run down the sideline, seeing the Knights take the game 26-10.
"It was a great start to our first home game of the season. Congratulations to the boys for their tenacity and enthusiasm on the paddock!" said Nic.
On Sunday, the Kiama Junior Knights had two teams - the Under 12s Girls League Tag team and the Under 13s Rugby League team - represent the Club at the Senior Knights games.
The girls presented jerseys to the Ladies League Tag team, and the boys presented jerseys to the First Grade team before their games against the Jamberoo Superoos.
This weekend, Saturday 13 April, will see 10 games of rugby league and league tag with the first game kicking off at 8am.
"It will also be the first time that our Under 13s play at home this year, so we'd like to encourage fans to head down to Chittick Oval on Saturday afternoon to cheer the boys on!" said Carl Middleton, President of the Kiama Junior Knights.
