Round #3 wrap-up

Round 3 of the South Coast Group 7 Junior Rugby League competition took place on the weekend, with the Kiama Junior Knights hosting 10 games including six league tag games.

According to Carl Middleton, President of the Kiama Junior Knights, the Club introduced league tag to its ranks in 2015 and since then numbers have grown significantly.

“This year the Club has more than 80 female players registered – the highest number ever – so it was great to see all of our League Tag girls in action at Chittick Oval this week,” said Carl.

“It’s certainly one of the fastest growing sports and I think it’s going to get even bigger for our Club in years to come,” he added.

The first game kicked off at 8am, with the Knights Under 14 Reds Girls League Tag team defeating Berry 44-8, before the Under 14s Blacks defeated Albion Park Oak Flats 52-0.

The Knights Under 16s Girls League Tag team then celebrated a great win against Albion Park Oak Flats, 34-12.

“It was a brilliant team effort with plenty of back line passing and inside balls thrown by the girls,” said Stu Willick, Coach.

“There were some great tries scored by Sian Conti, Sophie McDonald and Liv Foster.

“Our defence was a real strength today with the girls pulling off some great tags in both halves, very few mistakes and some nicely placed kicks,” he added.

“Above all the girls played for each other and are coming together nicely at the start of the season. Well done girls!”

Later that afternoon, the Under 10s Girls League Tag team suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 32-20, before the Under 12-2s Girls League Tag beat Milton-Ulladulla 30-12 and the 12-1s GLT won 50-0 against Stringrays Green.

In the final game of the day, the Knights Under 13s went down to the Gerringong Lions 18-6 in their first home game of the season.

The Club will enjoy the Easter Long weekend off, before games will resume on 27 April.
